Special Characteristics: 
The breed is paticularly resistant to Hypericum poisoning; it also has a good quality wool, good body conformation and good milker ewes. As is is a large breed (50-60 kg for ewes and 70-80 kg for rams), the feed requirement is notably high in this dry area (Mason, 1967).
Main Location: 
This breed was first developed and disseminated in north Tunisia, but later it spread over the whole country partly because of its resistance to Hypericum poisoning and the good quality wool (Mason, 1967).
Origin: 
This breed was developed at the Sidi Tabet experimental station as a composite of the Portuguese Black Merino and the Thibar of Tunisia.
